I'm reading Gillian Clarke's "At the Source" at the moment. In case you didn't know already, she is a Welsh poet, who became the third National Poet for Wales. "At the Source" is a book of essays on the poetic experience: how she composes her poems, what inspires her, and essentially, what happens at the heart poetry-writing. The rich natural heritage of the land and language of Wales acts as her primary muse, and her writing is rapturous, a blend of both Welsh and English, lending a distinctive syntactical elegance to each piece. Her writing is sourced largely from the seas, islands, fields and farms which surrounded her childhood homes, and those she lives in the midst of or engages with, and reflects on continually.
She writes prose with a poet's sensibility. Few books make you want to sit back and breathe deep, but this is one of them. At least for me, as I love nature writing.
Now I'm off to watch Kung Fu Panda! I've already watched it once before when it first came out. Simply feel like watching it again. One awesomely funny and endearing animated movie, this.
